The heat was unbearable, too alive for any living creature. It was summer, and J.D. Irons hated the summer heat, the hot brush of air that wandered in this state. On this June afternoon, J.D. sat in his bedroom, gazing into the distance , staring at the daring hot sun with he despised. He was a young man, still in his fair healthy youth, but was at most times, a smart-mouthed , uninteresting person. He had moved to this hot state, Texas, for really no good reason. His ex-wife, Marilyn, had moved here. It seemed to him, that he moved to be closer to his dear Marilyn, as if there was another chance for the both of them. She had split their marriage for businesss purposes. He was unemployed, too lazy to have a college and possibly high school education. Surprisingly, he looked better then most of those large unemployed people throughout the world. He was twenty-seven, fairly handsome with only one thing wrong. His nose was a bit slanted, crooked from a fight he got in back in his even earlier days. He had a athletic, peach color body, a mouth that rarely broke into a smile, and a wayward head of brown and blonde hair. His eyes were about as copper as they could go and they were probably one of the only things lively about him. With these looks, he was actually able to find the mate that he thought would be his one supreme lover forever. Marilyn Strauss. She was a beautiful woman, so beautiful she was almost too perfect. She had blonde hair with black dyed in ends. Her hair rested at the edge of her earlobes and curled at the back. A few pieces of stranded hair fell within her beautiful hazel eyes, a small beauty mark at the edge of her mouth. She was a beautiful woman in J.D.’s eyes and they were wed for two years, but then she decided for them to go separate ways. She didn’t want children, though J.D. had hoped for one. He thought at first that was the reason for her divorce but learned it was all bussiness. Great. J.D. stood up, stretching a bit as he wandered to the front of his house. He had a small little home, a two bedroom, two bathrooms, a living room, and a single kitchen. He was lucky to even get a house since being unemployed. He hated the word, but he himself was too lazy to get a job. He had no time. He wanted to spend his youthful life in relaxation, not business. He walked to his small kitchen and filled his empty glass full of coffee. He looked to the window, seeing the sun still shining within his eyes. He turned away, taking a small sip of his wonderful coffee. He sat onto his comfortable couch and set his coffee onto the drink table. He searched around, trying to somehow find the damn remote within his couch. He dug his hand and hunted for it like a child hunting for cookies in the cookie jar, which was something J.D. did as a child. He switched on the television and switched to the news, which was something he did regularly in the morning. He then began to watch, his copper eyes reflecting the picture on the television set. Nothing too great today was going on. Just two women had disappeared last night. Nothing too knew and nothing too exciting. There bodies would probably been found later in the week. Like he cared. He was a bit self-centered a well, as Marilyn put it, one of the things Marilyn thought he should fix in his nasty personality. As he sat lazily on his couch, his phone began to ring loudly, so loud it could wake up your neighbors and make them crazy from the alerting sound. J.D. wandered over, grumbling to himself as he dragged his feet behind him. He lifted the phone from the receiver, “Hello?” his voice was nothing close to mellow, but powerful and demanding, like a officer on duty. “Jason! Oh thank god your home!” a feminine voice whimpered, almost as if crying. “Lily?” J.D. questioned. Jason was he true name, J.D. was just a nickname given to him by his dad, the “D” standing for David, which was he middle name of course. Lily was his younger sister. Lily was a lovely brunette with astonishing hazel eyes, which she received from their mothers side, most of her looks coming from their mother. J.D. was a mixture of both, his mothers skin color, his father’s eyes, his father’s face, and his mother’s lips. Lily was a beauty like no other and was known as a lady’s man. At least three time a week, a single man will ask her for a date, her number, or even her hand in marriage. Though, most of those dick heads didn’t last too long with Lily. Though Lily was a very chipper almost harmless woman, she was nothing close to weak. She had at least two black belt in Tae Kwon Do and could handle a gun like a Charlie’s Angel. “What’s wrong Lily?” J.D. asked again, hearing her sniffle and cry. “Did you see...the n-news about the girls?” she cried. “Yeah? What about it?” J.D. was a bit confused. Why bring them up? What was going on? “I...I think I’m in trouble Jason...” she stuttered. “I knew those girls...and...I think the one that took them was looking for something...” she whimpered. “Wh-what are you getting at Lilus...?” J.D.’s voice deepened, the nature of family protection pumping in his brain. “I...I think my friends witnessed something they weren’t supposed to see...” J.D. was silent as he heard her words. “And...you have that evidence...?” he inquired. “Yu-yes...”Lily cried. “I-I’m so scared Jason...I...I don’t know what to do...they’re going to come after me! Please Jason! Can you come to California?” “I’ll get on a plane straight away and get my stuff packed, you just stay were you are...don’t let anyone in the house and keep guard all right...I’ll come for you.” J.D. exclaimed over the phone. “I have to go get packing but you just stay where you are. I’ll call you back when I’m at the airport all right?” Lily whimpered and cried but then replied,”O-okay...thank you Jason...” “All right Lily...I love you...see you in a few hours all right...bye,” he hung up the phone quickly and suddenly rushed up to his room, not sparing a single moment.

J.D. readied himself in his car, setting his bag in the back of his old tattered gray Ford truck. He started the engine with no hesitation and began to drive toward the airport. He didn’t care whih one, he just needed to get to one. He would be surprised if he could even get on a plane, seeing as how poor he was, being someone with no job. He knew there was only one person he could turn to in such a needy crisis. Marilyn. He turned the corner, making a detour toward her house. He knew this wouldn’t be the most pleasing of visits, but he had to get some extra money if he couldn’t get on the plane. He then thought, what did Lily’s friends see that they weren’t supposed to see. Was it that bad? He pushed those thoughts away, knowing he had to think about getting on the plane, but what could he tell Marilyn? Would she believe him about Lily? He hoped she would. She was about her only hope. He reached her house in about ten minutes, the usual drive about twenty minutes but he had speeding, which surprised him because he didn’t even think his piece of crap car could even pass thirty miles an hour. Her house was a two story, a bit too large for a one person family. He turned off the engine and pulled out the key. He jumped out of his beaten up truck and locked it just in case, not taking any chances with the locals. He rang the doorbell two times. He wondered if Marilyn was doing all right. Although he had moved near her, it was very rare for him to actually see her. He hadn’t seen her for six months. What could happen in six month he thought. He turned seeing the door knob began to slowly turn and J.D. fixed his attention quickly to the door. It opened and a man stood there, not the young beautiful Marilyn he was hoping for. “Um...excuse me...is...Marilyn here?” J.D. asked quietly, looking over the man’s shoulder. The man was about five feet ten inches as an estimate and looked about thirty two at the least. He had a strong masculine body and had a strange awkward look in his eyes, which were ocean blue and narrowed low.His hair was trendy, normal for a man. His face had small prickles of facial hair. His clothes were a white top and tight blue jeans around his strong thighs. “Yeah...she’s here.” he answered, his voice gruff and deep, but at the same time handsome to a woman. “Mary! Someone’s here to see you!” he shouted loudly, turning to the inside of the house. “Come on in,” he wanned the door a bit to allow him in and J.D. accepted the gesture. “For me!” a loud shout came from the kitchen and J.D. moved in more into the middle of the house, staring around, seeing the beautiful walls with photos of this man and Marilyn. J.D. then looked to the man and had a puzzled look in his eyes.“So uh...are you h-” “My husband,” a sassy voice ringed in J.D.’s ear. “Hello Jason.” Marilyn stated. J.D.’s eyes looked over and say her lovely face. His heart skipped a beat as he stared at her beautiful self but his eyes glazed when he noticed an odd thing about Marilyn. She was pregnant. He stomach was large and bloated, stretching the shirt that she wore. He hair was still as short (and also her legs were still beautifully long.) “Oh...so your Jason...” the man suddenly replied. “I’m Michael...Michael Thompson.” he held out his hand to J.D., who didn’t return the shake but was thinking to himself. She’s pregnant! Why would she get pregnant when she didn’t want to have kids when he was with her! What was going on in that woman’s mind. She had already moved on, married again, and now pregnant. This was turning out to be a heart-breaking and nerve-wrecking day for young J.D.! “Su-So...your married.”J.D. whispered. “Yeah...um...,” he looking over to Michael for a split moment, shook his hand but his eyes wandered back to Marilyn. Michael’s eyes gazed at J.D. but then wandered to his watch. “Oh hell! I’m late for work honey! I’ll call you later all right!” he replied to her, running toward her and giving her a loving kiss then knelt down and kissed her belly. “See ya’ sweet heart,” he cooed to the child within her stomach and rushed out the door, grabbing his bag on the way. “All right...you two have fun! I love you!” he shouted. “You too dear,” Marilyn whispered softly, waving to her husband as she walked out the door. When the sound of the door hit her ears her eyes turned soft. “Hey Jason...what is it?” she asked softly again. “Y-you got preg-pregnant?” J.D. retorted quickly, still staring at her belly. “Yes...” she sighed. “I’m pregnant.” she wandered into the kitchen. “But that doesn’t matter...how are you?” she asked him as she began to wander to her coffee machine and readied a cup for the both of them. “And...you got married too!” his voice a little higher this time, almost a roar. “Yes! I got married! So what! I moved on! You didn’t!” Marilyn snapped, smashing her coffee cup down on the counter. “What did you expect me to do! Stay alone forever like you!” she shouted.

“Marilyn! I still love you! Haven’t you realized that! I moved to Texas to b-” he then stopped himself. He forgot that that was supposed to be his own secret that no one needed to know. He dropped his gaze from hers, which was stunned and quiet. “Yu-you...live here?” she mumbled. “You idiot! When people split up, go their separate ways, it supposed to mean they part from each other, barely make contact and move on, have kids, get married, have their own house with the family, not stalk their ex and haunt their lifestyle. You probably already knew I was pregnant anyway! And married you stalker! “I didn’t! I swear it didn’t all right! I haven’t seen you since we split up. Truthfully, I wanted to see you every week but every time I came over you were gone to work and no one was home because I thought you still lived alone. “Oh! So I brought entire house just for myself. I guess that means you think I’m selfish huh! Isn’t that right Jason! Wait, your the selfish one of the two of us because you can’t do anything! “Okay! You know what! The only reason I came here was to tell you my sister in in trouble and she might get hurt if I don’t get on a plane soon!” he screamed out loudly at her. Marilyn eyes stared with a glazed look. “Lily? What’s wrong with her?” she replied, her tone now changed to a worry. Lily was the one person that Marilyn could accept as a sibling. Lily and Marilyn were wonderful friends and would always stay that way. “I can’t explain but I need money to get on a plane. I don’t have enough, but when I can get the chance, I will pay you back Marilyn,” he explained. Marilyn pondered a moment, trying to think this moment through. She stared at J.D., trying to see if there was any lie in his wonderful copper eyes. You could tell from her eyes that she was having problems holding back something, J.D. could tell because it was the same look she gave him when she couldn’t tell him that she wanted a divorce, she gave him that same face as she was frightened to speak. J.D.’s eyes looked away from Marilyn and he headed to the door. “See you later Marilyn,” he mumbled, opening the door. “It was really nice seeing...you look as great as you did before....” he mumbled. As he headed out the door, Marilyn stood where she was, not stopping him at all as he headed out of her life. J.D. entered his car and started the engine. He looked to a faint window, seeing her lovely hazel eyes burning past the darkness of her home. He turned, pulling out of the driveway, knowing, somewhere deep down that that visit wasn’t going to be very pleasant. He pulled from her yard and began to drive away. As he drove away, the thought of Marilyn still buzzed in his mind, seeing her beautiful face again made him less gloomy, but seeing her happy without him in her life, made seeing her nothing to the hole in his heart. Suddenly, he heard a loud honk behind him and a slight wham as another car tapped his own car. J.D. suddenly awoke from his trance and slowly and gloomily walked from his car, his head low, not wanting to see another face again, knowing he would see Marilyn’s own beautiful face before him, but he had no choice. He looked up and lips suddenly pressed against his own, his eyes gaped and delicate hands touched his face. His eyes stared at the beautiful Marilyn and he retracted from her. Marilyn stood where she was, her face flushed red as she held something within her hands. She then handed it to J.D. four one hundred dollar bills. “That should be enough...at least I hope...if you need anymore, just tell me...all right..” J.D. was still gasping from the kiss onto his lips and he stared, his own face bright red from embarrassment. “Th-thanks Marilyn...” as he watched her walk away. As she wandered away, she looked back to him and grinned, “Oh...Jason...can you call me Mary? Also, can I have your permission to name our boy David...after your middle name...Michael favors it too...so...” she whispered, her face still flushed, J.D.’s own face flushed as well. “S-sure..” he whispered, gulping the lump in his throat. “Th-thank you Mari-Mary...” he softly spoke. Marilyn, or now Mary, grinned at J.D. still but then turned away softly and headed back to her car. “Sorry about your truck...you looked pretty distracted...so...anyway...” she replied, hopping into her Honda Civic. She started it and waved from her window, driving away. J.D. waved back softly as he saw her disappear again, like she did when he stood on the front porch, watching her car fade away from his life. She was gone again, but maybe not forever this time.

J.D. sat in a cab, sticking his hand out the window lazily as he stared at the beautiful country side before him. He had just gotten of his plane, and frankly he hated this ride. The woman behind him wouldn’t stop crying at the movie Titanic on the televtelevision the man beside him was such a talkative squirt he couldn’t even spend two minutes in his book, Alas, Babylon, but other than that, it was a peachy fly. He looked up to the driver and knocked on the glass separating them both. “How long until we get there?” The driver glanced at him two black eyes staring at him. The driver was a fairly large man and a buzzed hair cut. He had a stretching shirt that covered his belly and large white slacks. He nodded his head and answered, “We have a few moments.” J.D. laid back in his seat and stared back into the distance, his eyes heavy as he began to go deep into thought about all that had happened and also, of the past. A random memory wandered into his head of his high school days. He was popular and was a high school football player who was extremely desired by the women in school. His best friend, Neil Herre, was also a needed boyfriend. Neil was a good guy, always getting into trouble though. He remembered the night before he had disappeared about eleven years ago when he was with Neil, Lily, Ed, a fellow player and his girlfriend Hilary. They were playing the famous truth or dare. This game was where he was given the worst dare of his life. He had to kiss Neil as a dare and it wasn’t the most pleasant. After that day though, Neil disappeared and was never found by the authorities. Also, for about a year, Lily had teased J.D. to death (the kiss) until he was complete sick of it. Those were some good times, but also some of his worst times. J.D. always wondered where Neil had gone to, and now, Neil was nothing but a faded memory, almost forgotten. J.D. felt the car stop and he wandered away from his dream. He looked out the window and stared at Lily’s house, a nice cabin in the middle of the mountains of California. He exited the car, handing the money to the driver but told him to wait for a moment, just to see if Lily would mind riding the cab. He wandered toward the front but suddenly noticed a strange thing. There was no door. J.D. eyes widened to he rushed into the house, seeing a horrible mess covering the floor. He then began to shout,”Lily!” he called, hoping for an answer. “Lily!!” he called again, fearing the worst. He wandered into the kitchen, seeing the knives misplaced and missing some. He looked to the floor, a bloody knife lying across the floor. J.D. went into a sudden panic and worried for his sister’s safety. He entered back into the living room and noticed a camera plugged into the T.V., as if Lily was watching something she had taped. He looked to the floor, wondering if this was what she meant by seeing something she shouldn’t have. He searched through the camera bag, searching for a tape. After a few moment, he found a single tape. He wandered to the televison set and turned it on, inserting the tape into the camera. l l l
“Cassie! hold the camera still!” young Raven retorted, a young blonde with dull blue eyes. Her skin was a fair peach and her hair was twisted high into a messy bun. Her clothes consisted of a blue tank top that was loose on her frail thin body. A long design’s skirt with exotic designs. Cassie moved the camera to herself, showing a young woman with dark brown mahogany hair and tan Hawaiian skin. Her eyes were stunning and filled with life and radiance. Her clothes were a small black tube top and covering that was a long slick jacket reaching past her wrists. Her jeans were tight and thin on her fair long legs. The camera and there eyes wandered outside toward a group of men, most of the mens features hard to make out. Then men stood over a dead body, one of the men holding gun and began to drop it and the girls were already shaking in fear. “Raven...!” Cassie cried, sitting in her small Chevy. One of the men glanced over and saw them. He gestured his head toward the car and the girls gave out a shrill shriek of terror as a taller man wandered toward them, his features still unclear. The camera began to wiggle and dropped to the passengers seat of the car, Cassie frightened face and her hand shaking as she pressed on the gas, Raven’s voice in the background shouting and screaming.

J.D. stood in utter horror, his eyes wide. Not because of what was going on, but what he thought he saw. He began to rewind the tape slowly then stopped at the killer, the young killer. There was no doubt about it. It was Neil. Neil Heere was in the camera. He was alive and now no longer the man he once knew. When he was in high school his dream was to be a cop, and now this! His hair was shabby and looked as it always did, barbed and not kept straight. His extreme eyes even grew with radiance on the weak picture on the camera. His clothes were fairly nice in the state that he thought he was in. Dead.
