Here she was again drinking herself into a stupor. All she could thing about was how the new year was rolling in and she was still was still alone. No one to hold, no one to talk with. God, her life seemed like one curse after another. The curse to walk an enternity alone. She hadn't always been alone. With that thoughtsheI started to once again think of Dillon. Dillon who's blue eyes had gave her the world, how his arms were always there protecting her. She took another drink of whatever type of alchol she had now and closed her eyes and once again felt his arms around her, felt his calloused but gentle hands sliding over her body, his lips pressed against hers. And then the screams. The screams of the dying. The last sound she heard Dillon make. That was 3 years ago, and now here she was it still haunting her every thought. It was her fault he died, her fault she had lost her one true love. Hell, she wasn't going to let that happen again. She wasn't going to lose another Dillon. He had been her life, and when he went she lost part of herself. She had closed her heart off from the world, only letting those touch her exterior, letting no one in. No one close enough to get hurt. Jade took another gulp of her drink and felt herself losing the thin grip on control she had left and smiled. She smiled, it was only in the haze of drunkeness that she was able to find reprive from the nightmares that plagued her. Only then was she able to lose his touch.

Landon watched Jade from across the room and shook is head over what she had become. She ha d once been bubbly and bright and everyoone's best friend. Now she had shut herself off completely ignoring even the closest of her buddies. She even quit herr Hunter job for the Magic Center. That had been the love of her life, that and Dillon. He missed Dillon himself a great deal, but Dillon's death and been an accident that could have happened to anyone. Bad luck put him in the right spot. Dillon had been his best friend, and he knew Dillon watched over them now. But he was long past the mourning stage. Dillon had died on the job and was at least doing something he loved. While it tore up his heart to see Jade like this. She had been the best Hunter there was, you couldn't find anyone better. Dillon had been her partner on the job and off. But Jade, never known to drink before Dillon's death, was almost always here every night, drinking away something that would always be with her. LAndon had tried reaching out to her, even asking if he would want him to be her partner. But she had said no. Workign solo for a year she finally quit, lettign herself fall away from everythign she had once stood for. Seeign her slump foreard on the table finally, Landon got up and crossed the room cursing under his breath. She had lasted quite a while tonight, mast of the time she didn't last this long before she hit rock bottom. Lately though it took her longer to find the momentary relief of bliss unconciousness. Picking her up and cradling her in his arms Landon waked out of the bar and into the night sky. Just by holding her he could tell she had lost weight. He knew someday she would eventually fall off the tower she had built up around her, keeping the world away and keep all emotions in. And when she did fall, he planned to be there to catch her.

Dillon watched as Jade once again lost herself to the alchol. He never wanted this for her, and worst of all she had blamed herself for his death. Dillon had sacrificed himself so the other Hunters could get away. Especially Jade. Wihout Jade, Dillon would not have lasted much longer if it was her who had died. But he didn't want the fate he had to be Jade's fate. As long as she stayed alive he had hope that she would recover. He could feel the call of his Master and knew that he needed to go to him soon or face his wrath. He shuddered at that. Powers that would even make the dead quake. Which in the case of Dillon who wasn't alive, left him in a poor spot. His soul locked in servitude to the very demon he had been hunting. The irony. The hunter becomes the hunted. The hunted becomes the slave. The call was getting stronger and he knew he could not resist the call much longer. Seeing Jade pass out he reached out for her brushing her face, his hand passing right through. His face filled with remorse. If only there was some way to tell her, some way to get her to move on in life. He stayed watchign her until Landon came and scooped her up in his arms. He patted his dear friend on the shoulder even though he knew Landon couldn't feel it. "Thank you my friend," he said to ears that couldn't hear. With that he dissipitated into the air, once again going to his master bidding.

Dillon appeared in a dark room with nothing but bleak blackness. THe only light was the light coming form his ever spectral glow. He waited to hear the searing words he knew were coming. He didn't have to wait long, he knew as soon as his master was there. He could feel the fury filling the room. THen he saw the red glowing eyes in the ever extending darkness. "Dillon....." THe voice hissed, filled with leashed fury. Dillon felt his master, Sarlon, exerting his power of his spirit. He felt himself fall to his knees against his owh will and words were forced out through clenched teeth," Yes MAster." "YOu went to the girl again..." THe red eyes narrowed as the raspy words came out of nowhere it seemed. "I told you not to go there." Dillon kept silent knowing there was nothign he could say. "You will be punished this time. There will be no mercy..." Dillon bit back a sharp retort that was hanging on his tongue. "You will not disobey me again. You are mine...for eternity..." Dillon's eyes went wide as he felt the power pressing down on his spirit. Never before had his punishments cause so much power to be pressed upon him. When the searing pain ripped his soul, he let out a scream filled with anguish of death. But you can't kill someone that's already dead.

The sun broke the horizon and light flooded into the previously dark room. A shaft of sunlight fell onto the bed and across Jade's face and she groaned as she was woken from her sleep. Her head was pounding in time with her heart and she opened her eyes slowly. Attempting to move into a sittign postion, she finally managed it and imeadiately regretted it. Just those few movements and her head was spinning. Cursing the entire way she managed to make it to the bathroom adjoining her room. Once again she imeadiately regretted the choice. Seeing her own reflection in the mirror made her cringe. Her usual bright green eyes were dull and sunken in. Her hair was knotted and had lost all its shine. Taking a deep breath she reeked of alcohol. And that was all it took and she was sick, retching over the toilet. Done with the nasty buisness of the morning she stood up wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. Everything seemed to be crashing down on her. She hated what she had let herself become. She wasn't the girl Dillon fell in love with. Just the thought of Dillon's name sent a stab trhough her heart. She hated the feeling of being alone and lost. But she hated the thought of having to lose anyone again. That was pain she didn't want to experience. Sure there were several people that she could go to. They had all tried to reach out to her. She had just pushed them away. Landon especially. Landon was always there for her. Always making sure she got home safe and a lot of times he just dropped by to check on her. And it's not like he hadn't gone through the same thing. He and Dillon had been best friends for longer than Jade had been around. She had been a bitch to him and she knew it. Looking back at the past two years she regretted that she had ever become this. She didn't even like herself, how could anyone else? Looking up at herself in the mirror she saw tears running down her cheeks. Reaching a hand up she touched the tears making sure they were actually real. She felt the salty wetness and started crying harder. What had she become?

Jade didn't know how long she sat there crying or how long the thoughts of the past three years chased themselves through her head, but by the time she came to her senses the sun was setting. For the first time she had let herself truly mourn for Dillon. Dillon had been the love of her life yes, but he was gone. She had taken the time finally to slow down and actually think what was best for her. He was gone from the earth but he lived on in her heart and always would. He wouldn't want her to be like this and she was determined to change it. Looking around her small apartment she decided the first thing of order was to clean up. The place was a wreck and in not much better shape than she was herself. She went to her room and started there. It was a decent size with a bed meant for two. A trunk sat at the end of the bed and in it was all her equipment from her hunter days. A bedside table was on either side of the bed and there was a chest of drawers off to the side along with a desk. She sighed, it was going to take a while just to get this one room back in order. But it was worth it she decided. Every little step would help. With a determince and eagerness she hadn't felt in three years Jade ripped the sheets and blankets off the bed and settled down to the task at hand.

Landon glanced at his watch and grimaced. He had fallen sleep watching tv and completely forgot about Jade. It was almost two in the morning and she was usually out by now. He sped down the street at a jog bordering at a run. He hoped nothing had happened to her. He would never forgive himself if she had finally pushed herself over the edge tonight. That was his one fear was that she would give up completely and let go of life. She had come so close to it so many times.... He pushed the bar door open and glanced aorund the room and when he didn't see Jade's red hair he started to panic. He could feel the sweat breaking out on his forehead and he wiped it away impatinetly. He took a deep breath and started calming down. She could be anywhere. Maybe she was in the bathroom, or in a booth and was blocked form view. Or maybe she had went back to her house on her own. Or maybe possibly she never came, or was somewhere else at a different bar. Surely she was ok. Landon started to calm down a bit. He walked around the room checking all the booths and when he didn't see her still he felt the panic start to rise again. Seeing Rose standing behind the bar. Surely if anyone knew where Jade was it would be her. Rose worked in this bar everynight, and like Landon, had been keeping and eye on Jade. "Hey Rosie how's the night been?" Landon asked trying to keep the worry out of his voice. "It's been pretty slow, no major mishaps. What do ya need sugar?" Rose replied leaning on the bar which cuased her volumptiuos breasts to almost pop out of her extrmely low necked dress. Landon just ignored it. "Actually, has Jade been here tonight?" When he spoke Jade's name his voise cracked a bit. He was starting to lose his outward calm. "No, sugar, I haven't. This is the first time in a long time she hasn't been here. I know you've been watching out for her. And I'm sure Dillon appreciates it where ever he is. But Jade needs more help than that. Do you know where she is?" Landon took a deep breath and said quietly, " No, and that's what sacres me."

Jade finshed putting the clean sheets on her bed and sighed with relief. Her room was completely clean and spotless now. The pictures of her and Dillon she had torn off the walls were now back up. Her bed spread was white with tiny green flowers embrodered into it. and the pillows were fluffed and it looked nice. Jade couldn't remeber the last time the room had looked this good. "Probably before Dillon's death," she said aloud as she had taken up doing as she was working. Any little thing that could be said that hadn't been said since his death she had said. Remembering the good times, and not dewling on his unfortuante demise. She smiled and started laughing at the novlety of it all. Smiling and laughing. Felt better than crying. Bending down she picked up a red teddy bear with the words 'I Love You' across his tummy. It had been a gift from Dillon, given to here a mere week before his death. Holding it tight to her chest she kissed the bear's head and sat him on the bed. Where Dillon had occupied all those years ago. Looking up at the clock she yawned. It was three in the morning and she hadn't slept all day. Making her way to the bathroom she started taking off her clothes to put on her PJ's. When she saw herself in the mirror she gasped. When had she gotten so thin, and how had she not noticed. There was no fat to be seen. Not that she had had much fat on her before but she had been toned and defined with muscle. All that was there now was skin and bones. Pulling a t-Shirt once belonging to Dillon over her head, she became scared. How close had she been to killing herself. Surly not much longer and her self abuse would have killed her. She shuddered and not from the cold. Death had been, was still, close to her. She had to change her habits. She chuckled slightly. "The irony," she wishpered," All these years I've been trying to escape this life and find Dillon... I came so close. Just to find he's been with my all along... Huh. Funny how life works." Jade moved back into her room and turned out the lights as she slided under the covers of her bed. Grabbing the Teddy bear she held it close to her heart. Once again she started dreaming of Dillon. But it wasn't the nightmares that had haunted her for the past three years. It was like they were before his death. Happy, young adn in love. She closed her eyes and smiled. There was no need to chase these dreams away.
