"No," he said with another one of those smug smiles, "it's you we've been looking for, Maia." "How-" "Do I know your name?" he said, finishing the sentence before I could finish it. "I know more than just your name Maia Seren Detauri. And if you come with me, I can explain everything for you." I just starred at him wide eyed and extremely confused. But I knew that I wasn't about to stand around here and get kidnapped. I was just about to make a run for it, when something stopped me dead in my tracks. He had reached in his pocket and pulled out what looked like a necklace. It had a long and delicated golden chain and at the end there was a heart, cut right down the middle jaggedly. I knew what it was immediatly. I reached to my neck and pulled off my necklace. All my life, I had a necklace with something written on it, but I never new what it said, for it was cut in half. I walked towards the man and held my peace of the necklace up to his. A bright light formed along the middle of the brocken heart, so bright in fact that I had to close my eyes. When I opened them again, the two halves of the heart had formed together, and I could finally read what it said. Maia, The Star of Tauri

They went outside of my room so that I could change before we left. But to be honest I had no idea what I was doing. There were still so many questions. Why were they here? What did they want from me? And what in the world did that necklace mean?! I was still apprehesive about going with them. I mean, I had only known them for what? Five minuetes, tops? But somehow I knew I could trust them, and more importantly i would find all the answers I was looking for. I slid a shirt on a shirt and some comfortable pants. Around my neck I had the heart necklace. It was so light that I could hardly tell that it was around my neck. I fiddled with the end of it, nowing that i needed to go outside to meet them. I took a deep breath, and walked out the door. "I'm ready," I said to them, "Now it's time you answer some questions for me."

As they led me outside I realized I hadn't even said a word to the other man. "I'm sorry," I said to him, "I didn't catch your name." He just starred back at me with is hard, icy blue eyes. In most cases I would have just looked away, not being able to keep eye contact, but instead i kept my eyes glued to his. Some how i new that if i looked away, it would be like backing down, and i didn't want them to think i was week. "His name is William." answered Aldebaran, "He's just the body guard." All the while Will kept his strong eyes on me. Finally I broke it, but not because i was week, but because i was now focosed on what Aldebaran was saying. "Bodyguard?" I asked, "Why do I need a bodyguard?" "It's just a precaution. Don't worry, my lady, if there was any real danger, I would have brought more men than just William." We walked a little ways down my street to the neighborhood park. It was pitch black outside, besides the street light, and it was odly dim tonight. As we walked through the park, everything seemed to strangely be the oppisite of how the park usually looked. What was once made cheerful by the sun, had now become strange and twisted by the darkness and shadows. We walked to a nearby pic-nic table and took a seat. Aldebaran reached into the long sleeve of his robes and seemed to pull a lantern right out of thin air. "Now Maia," he began, "what I'm about to tell you won't make any sence to you at all, and most likely you won't believe me, but you just have to listen." "Okay." I said ready to hear the truth. "There is a galaxy called Tauri, named after Taurus." "Like the zodiac sign?" I ased, remembering that my friend Kait was a Taurus. "Exactly." he said smiling, as if it was amazing that i new that much. "Well in this galaxy there are thousands of planets, but the one that is at the center of them all, is the planet Maia." He looked excited now, as if he was about to say the punchline in a really great joke. "This planet and many other surrounding has an intricate civilization and is in many ways far above earth's status." "So wait, " I said interupting, "There are othere people out there?" He nodded his head as he continued on with his explanation. "Now, this kingdom, is of course usually run by a king and queen, until about 15 years ago when there was a terrible revolt. The King and Queen feared for not only their lives but the lives of there family. so they sent their youngest daughter, away to a distant planet, while they kept there eldest son, in hopes that he could rule of the people. However both the king and his son were killed in one of the attacks, and after the baddles were finally over, only the queen remained to rule the now poverished people." "How terrible. " I said, and could feel way down deep in my heart. "And what's more, the queen had no idea as to where she had sent her daugher, and wouldn't be able to locate her until after her 16th birthday. Now she is slowly dieing and the people need a replacement to the thrown very soon." "Well has the daughter turned 16 years old yet? Can't you find her?" I asked. "Well we were hoping you could help us with that." "Me?" I said, surprised, "How can I help?" "Oh, Princess, please tell me you havn't figured that part out yet?" Aldebaran now walked straight to what looked like a specific spot to him, but was just another portion of the grassy play ground. I followed him over, almost mechanically, to where he was. Me? A Princess? My whole world was turning upside down today. He cracked open his large book, whispered a few words that I couldn't hear, and all of a sudden a blue light started forming out of thin air. Soon, it was taller than Aldebaran himself, who had to be atleat 6' 5". I stood back eyes wide open. Aldebaran stood at the foot of the portal his hand held out to me. "It's time to go home now, my lady." However my feet had a different idea, and I started walking backwards. I don't know what scared me more the fact that I was leaving the only place I'd ever known with two people from a different galaxy, or the fact that I was facing a bright blue, swirling, dimension of death. As I backed up I ran into Will and looked up at his icy blue eyes. and right then i was certian that if I walked into that portal right now, everything would be changed for me, but at the same time I could feel that everthing would be fine in the end. Before I knew what I was doing I was taking Aldebaran's hand and at the same time saying good bye to my old home, and embracing a new one.

As I started to wake up, I kept my eyes shut tight, trying to catch a few more mineutes of sleep. I had had the strangesest dream last night, and yet somehow it was very clear in my head. Most of the time I forgot a dream right after I woke up, and it was strange how vivid this one was to me. I mooved my hand instictivly up to my necklace were I felt an intact heart. Uh-oh. I swiftly opened my eyes looking around at my surroundings. I was lying in a huge bed, with sheets of silk. All around the room were expensive furnishings. The wall were covered with intricate tapestreys, and the stone floor was lavashed with beautiful rugs. So maybe it hadn't been a dream after all...

I can't believe what happened. I mean one minuete I was certain the most perfect boy in the world was going to ask me out, and the next i'm being sucked into some big blue wormhole. I don't even remember what happened. The last thing I remember was being ingulfed by a bright light, and this big sucking motion, and then bam. I was waking up in some strange room i'd never seen before. So easily, it had been to convince me to come. If it happened all over agian, i was certain that I would have thought this thing out a little more. I mean, what exactly was going to happen to me? Would I ever get to see my mom and dad agian? Or Justin? I don't think I could go on knowing that he'd probably get back together with lauren once i was gone. no, i could not let that happen. I got out of bed and looked around. I was still wearing my pajamas from last night, but there were some clothes on a chair near by. Not that i knew how to put them on. they looked like they came right out of the middle ages. I ignored the clothes and went straight to the door. I had made up my mind. I would go straight to were ever that aldebaran guy was and tell him that i just couldn't stay here. I opened the door and there right in the door way stood Will. "Hello Princess," he said taking a slight bow.

"Ummm... hi" I said looking up at him. He was pretty tall. I mean i'm 5'7" which is pretty tall for my age (part of which is why i'm so clumbsy), but he still made me feal short. "Just call me Maia." I said to him. I'm still not really used to the whole princess thing, and it somewhat freaks me out to be called that still. He looked at me kind of surprised, but just bowed agian and siad, "Of course, Princess." I just stared at him. I couldn't decide if he was being serious, or just trying to tease me. But for now i was to much in a hurry to confront him. Which I of course planned on doing, atleast if i was going to spend any extra time here... hopely not. "Look, I need to speak to that Aldebaran guy as soon as possible." Will was going to say something, but then Aldebaran came right around the corner as if he knew i wanted to talk to him. "Princess Maia, my dear," he said with a huge smile on his face. "why don't you join us for breakfast. You must be very hungry."

As long as I've lived, i've had a fast motabolizm. I can eat and eat, but i usually don't gain weight. So this, of course, led to my great love of food. So naturally i accepted Aldebaran's request, thinking that a nice warm breakfast was exactly what i needed in the morning. Later, I realized that Aldebaran somehow new that the idea of food would be the perfect way to distract me, and of course he used my weakness on me with no mercy. So i followed Aldebaran along the lavashly decorated halls to, where i assumed, would take us to some kind of kitchen. Somehow these long corridores reminded me of the renisaunce period from earth: the walls were covered with incricate tapestrys depicting battle seens. There were also many portraits, almost all of them containing people in the same beautiful and yet unconfortable clothes that i had seen people wearing all the time in my history book. There were many candles along the walls as well, though they were not lit, for the many windows provided plenty of light during the day. Really, I felt that i had been sucked back in time, rather than to a different planet. However, when i started paying closer attention to the detail of the tapistries, i began to see things that i deffinatly never would have seen in a renissaunce battle. Men dressed much like Aldebaran himslef romed the battle field, some of them looking terribly scary compared to others. Among the many iron clad soilders quite a few had things about them that were disterbing. One man had his arm impossible twisted so that every bone was broken. several men were missing limbs, and a few had gained them... over all these battle seens were even more horrific then the ones from earth.

"I couldn't help but notice you were looking at our famous tapestrys."stated Aldebaran, and i nearly jumped out of my skin. I was so concentrated on the tapestrys, that i momentarily forgot that i wasn't alone, and he completly startled me. "Oh, yah," i siad. My mind still picturing the horrific fights. "They're...er... very... interesting." i commented trying not to offend him. Aldebaran didn't seem the least bit offended and beemed at my complement. "You will soon learn, Princess Maia, that the history of Tauri is filled with epic battles full of daring warriors and terrifying mages."

"That's nice." I said trying to think of any way that those battles could appear nice. In truth, they looked awful, and i couldn't imagine running a country where these type of events were regularly held. "Aww" said Aldebaran as he walked through an archway at the end of the hall, "Here we are. Take a seat at the end here, Princess." I walked into a room which looked to be like some type of breakfast nook. Besides the fact that there were candles providing the light and a suit of armor in the corner, it looked quite normal. I took my seat, and Will went and stood a couple feet behind me. I noticed him walking behind us on our way here, but i thought he was just being polite. "Isn't he going to eat too?" I asked Al. I had a friend named Al once, and i thought aldebaran needed a shortened name. "William?" he asked, looking midly amused at my question. "No, my dear, he's just the body guard. He'll be the one watching over you most of the time." "Oh," I said wondering what exactly it was like to have a body guard. I wasn't used to people hovering over me. "He may be young," Al explained, "but he is from a long line of body guards, and has proved to be just as useful as his lineauge."

"So," I said as some people that i assumed were servants came in with steaming hot food and placed it in front of me, "when am I going to meet this Queen of yours?" To my surprise, there in front of me was a plate of scrambled eggs sprinkled with cheese, a couple of peaces of bacon and jellied toast, a glass of orange juice, and a bowl of strawberrys. I couldn't have picked a better breakfast myself. "You mean when will you meet your mother?" Al said to me. "Well i can't really call her my mother can I?" I said starting to push food into my mouth and swallowed before continueing on. "She's my biological mother, I suppose, but my real mother is the one that carred and raised me." "Well I suppose you have a point." he said now, looking a bit defeated. "But i'm sure you'll come to love her as your real mother very soon. she's a magnifent lady." "By the way," I said, remembering what i wanted to talk to him about in the first place, "when exactly am i going to get to go back home?" Al almost spit out the food he had so delicatly and politely put into his mouth.
