A great ice dragon swooped down from the sky, it's wings beating heavily. It dragged it's worn body into a great cave, at least twice the great dragon's height. The ice dragon, known as Seri, short for Serileh, limped farther into the cave, then fell down, just before a great nest. Inside the nest was three eggs. Two of the eggs were broke in half. The third one still lived inside the shell, while the other two were killed. Seri stumbled, but managed to lift her head into the nest. She coaxed the egg, willing it to hatch.
"Hatch before your mother dies, please. Let me have at least one look. One look. Please," Seri said softly to the egg. Her fatel wound was still bleeding, and would continue. She would be dead in a matter of minutes.
The egg began shaking. Seri almost cried with happiness, but didn't say anything. She just sat there, staring at her egg.
The egg began cracking. First one long crack donw the middle, then many random cracks everywhere on the shell. Soon, a tiny head poked out of the shell. The baby dragon was a ice dragon, like her mother.
"Come now, I have much to teach in very little time." Seri picked the hatchling up by her scruff and walked ot the edge of the cave. Seri begun breathing hard, and she walked a little faster. The hatchling was staring wonderfully at the bright colors around her, not noticing her mother's strange heartbeat. Soon Seri and the baby came upon an open meadow, where many holes were dug. Rabbit holes. Seri put the baby down andled her over to a hole. She put her claw into the hole and felt around. There. The rabbit hole wasn't longer than her extremly long claw, and on the end of Seri's claw was a full-grown male rabbit. Seri showed the baby the rabbit and pointed to the hole.
"Now you try," Seri said, managing to keep her tones normal, despite her harsh breaths. The baby, not fully understanding but willing to try, waddled closer to the hole. She was small enough to fit inside the hole, so she crawled in. She saw the family of rabbits in front of her, despite the small light, and licked her lips. She crawled over to them and bit the mother in the neck. The rabbit tried to hop away, but it was to late. The baby dragon left the rabbit babies there, and crawled backwards, out of the hole.
When she got out, she proudly dropped the rabbit at her mothers feet. She began eating, and when she was finished she yawned. Seri already was on the ground, unable to stand.
"I'm going to leave you now, Kiyalee. Be a good girl, and remember, beware of humans! I love you, my darling. Goodbye," And with that, Seri dropped her head low and let herself succumb to the darkness, leaving a small dragon crying at her mothers feet, understanding what happened.
