Penelope saw her mother wink at her dad out of the corner of her eye. This was rediculous! They acted as if they were cupid or something, making them fall in love, when really all they were doing was making her stay awake! Sir Harold strechted out his arm for her to take hold off. They started up the path, when Penelope spotted Derek up by the stables. Eat you heart out, Derek Mathews! she thought to herself, and decided to act like she was having a great time, just to erk him. Somehow the thought of annoying him in any form or fasion was fun. Much to her dismay, however, he just smiled and even waved at the them! The nurve! He just wanted to annoy her as much as she wanted to annoy him! Well, she wouldn't give him the plesure of a victory. She gave him her sweetest, most innocent smile, and returned the wave. This seemed to have bugged him a bit, so she turned her attention to Sir Harold, though she new she was in for a bore...

"Penelope" sir Harold began. "I know this whole marrige thing is a bit sudden, but I think you'll come to find that living with me has it's advantages." "Such as" Penelope inquired. She wasn't expecting this and was curious to hear what would be so grand about living with such a boring man. "Well first of all, you'll be able to buy almost anything you want. I even have a personal seamstress who can tailor any dress to fit you perfectly. I also own some of the best pure bread horses around, and you can ride them whenever you'd like. Your father told me you enjoyed riding," he said with a wink as if it were there little secret. She didn't like the idea of the duke and her father talking about her behind her back. "And, " the duke continued, "you'll have one of the most handsome and intelligent man around," he said puffing his chest out in pride. "And who might that be?" "Why me of course!" he said with a laugh. Penelope blushed. He obviously thought she was joking, but she really didn't know that he was talking about himself! He surtanly was not handsome, and hadn't been to intelligent thus far.

"Well, we need to be heading back soon. I'm afraid I must leave you." said Sir Harold. "What a pitty." said penelope, though she was truly thankful. They spoke about Sir Harold's fighting techniche (well mostly it was Sir Harold that did the talking) until they were but a few yards from the house. "I thought we might go on a little ride tommorrow to become more aquainted with each other. How would you like that?" "Well..." Penelope was about to make up an excuse for not being able to come, when she saw her mom shaking her head up and down from behind Sir Harold. She would rather listen to Sir Harold's boring war stories, then get lectured from her mom, and she was going to have to spend time with him eventually anyways. "... I would be delighted."

Penelope waved good-bye as Sir Harold walked to his carrige. She was so glad that there little walk was over, that she ran inside to talk to Isabel, when she ran into none other than Derek. "I'm sorry miss-" said Derek politley, until he noticed who had run into him. "Oh it's you." "Well, it's ever so lovely to see you, too!" said Penelope sarcasticly. "How was your little date, Penny." He always teased her by calling her Penny. She hated it. "Please don't call me that! And our lunch-in went splendid!" leid Penelope. "I'm quite shure he'll make a fine husband." "Husband! Well that was quick!" "Oh, like you didn't know! I've been promised to this man since I was 5!" "And you just met him for the first time today?!" Penelope blushed. She didn't like being made a fool of. "I'll have you know that I've fallen madly in love with Sir Harold in the... past few hours that I've known him. We're practically like Romeo and Juliet!" "Well except for the fact that your Romeo is over twice your age!" retorted Derek. "Age has no limits on love!" snapped Penelope. "Well then, I'll make sure to be there on your wedding day to see the happy couple wed!" "Fine!" "Fine!" They both stormed off in opposite directions, leaving each other's company mad, as usual.

Still fuming, Penelope walked to talk to Isabel. What she ment to talk about with her friend was how she was going to definatley decise herself for the ball, but what they ended up talking about instead was how angry she was with Derek. "I just can't stand him! Why can't he ever be nice to me!?" half shouted Penelope to her freind, not meaning to. "Well I think it's cute, the way you two always fight. Especially when he calls you Penny!" laughed Isabel. "Cute?! It's utterely childish!" "And sticking your toung out at him isn't?" questioned Isabel, with a broad smile on her face. She always had a sligh look about her, and it could be very frustrating. "Well... it's different! Anyways, I wanted to tell you've that I've decided to go to the mask as someone else."

"Oh, this is so exciting!" exclaimed Isabel. "Um... there's one other thing. Will you help me pick out something to wear?" asked Penelope. "Of course I will! You didn't think I was going to leave that to you?! I think I know what would be the perfect outfit, as a matter of fact!" siad Isabel leaping to her feat. She led her down the hall, to her room. She was pretty well off for being a maid, and had her own room, including a bed, a wardrobe, and a desk and chair. Her family had been with Penelope's for a long time, and had become, in a way, to be family. Penelope sat on the bed, while Isabel rummaged throught her closet. "This dress looks horrid on me, but I imagine, it will make you look like a vision." said Isabel, finally turning around, revealing the most beautiful dress Penelope had ever seen in her life. It was made in the finest pink silk in all the land, and was trimmed with beautiful red roses, entwined in deep green vines. The neck lowered down elegently, and a small train trailed in the back. Penelope stood up with her mouth opened wide getting a closer look at the dress. "Now, the dress was made to fit me, so we'll have to add to the lenght, and the trim is a bit tatered over here, and..." "Thank you so much, Isabel." said Penelope hugging her friend. "For everything." Isabel smiled and hugged her freind back. You could tell that they would always be the best of friends.

Day 3 Horses Equal Sore Butts
Penelope went to bed early that night in her own bed, so that she would actually wake up on time today. Isabel had wanted to stay up late and make plans for the ball, but Penelope had insisted on going to bed early. She was actually somewhat anxious about going riding today. She was a master at riding, except when it came to side-saddle. She would always find herself sliding off the edge and often times did. Most of the time though, she caught herself and scooted back up on the horse before she came crashing to the ground. She laid awake in the early morning, staring at her ceiling, and waiting for someone to come in and wake her.

Many things raced through her head, in paticular, the up coming ball. She could not wait, and yet she was terrified about it. She could only imagine the catastrophe that would occure if her parents were to find her flirting with another besides her betrothed. She would probably be put into hiding, until people would stop gossiping about the scandalas Penelope Walker. The only good thing that might come out of it, is that she might wesseal her way out of marring Sir Harold, though it was highly unlikely. Unfaithful women were usually kept out of public places, as too not atract any attention.

Penelope was so deap in her thoughts that she was startled when someone nocked on her door. "Come in." said Penelope. In came Pamala, looking as bright and cheery as ever. She walked over to the window and ripped open the curtains. "It's such a beautiful day for a horse ride, wouldn't you say?" siad Pamala giving a very obvious wink in Penelope's direction. "Pamala!" penelope could not believe her maid's behaviour. "I was only saying that you might enjoy spending some alone time with Sir Harold, is all" said Pamala giving her another strong wink. "Well, actually, I'm quite dreading it! he's such a bore!" "I bet he won't be a bore on your wedding night, if you know what i mean!" once agian, winking. "Pamala! You should be ashamed!" siad Penelope launching a pillow at her. "I'm only saying!" siad Pamala, though a very wide grin spread across her face.

whatever pamala might of thought about how penelope felt about sir harold was completley wrong. never the less she couldn't help but laugh at her comments. she slipped on a faded blue dress, that she often wore when she rode horses. she saw no point in rewining a perfectly good dress by getting it a smelly and dirty. she walked outside of her room and standing there was sir harold, looking as boring as ever. he smiled and once again greeted her with a wet sloppy kiss to the hand. as soon as she was released she wipped her wet hand on her dress as descreatly as possible. "I have many things to talk to you about penelope so we should be off pretty quickly. i have a meeting with the general today at noon." Well atleast she would only have to deal with this man for a bit before he would leave, but she couldn't help but wonder what on earth he wanted to talk to her about. "lead the way." she said to him with a smile. what ever it was it couldn't be that bad... could it?

they walked slowly towards the barn where derek had saddled to horses for them. "are you going to actually stay on the horse this time, penny?" whispered derek in her ear, flashing her with his taunting smile. "oh shut up and help me on the stupid horse." whispered penelope right back. she was in no mood for his childish games this morning. as gracefully as she could manage, penelope sat side saddled and proper on top of buttercup. "well you almost look like a lady!" commeneted Derek. In response penelope just stuck out her tong and started off up the path through the woods with sir harold.

No sooner were they at the path that led through the woods then did Sir Harold start to talk. Penelope started to toon him out. she stared at the muddy ground of the path that. This was the stikiest mud around and was really similare to tar. "...now that was when we finally made it past the sheald wall, and...Penelope, are you listening to me?" Sir Harold questoned. "Huh? Oh, yah." said penelope not really caring. "Well I thought we could talk, but if the mud is more interesting..." She had wanted to tell him to go ahaid and leave but her mother would never aprove. "Sorry, It's just that I... stayed up to late last night." she didn't want to lie, but she didn't want to tell that she was bored out of her mind listening to them. "Apology accepeted." He said, like she even cared about his aproval! "Now, staight to matters. I was thinking, and I've decided that six or seven children will be the right amount. Most of them being boys of course." "Whose children?" asked Penelope. "Why ours of course!" he said like it was so obviosly apparent. Penelope just sat there gaping at him, not knowing what to say, when she realized she was moving. Before she could stop herself she was falling butt first into six inches of black mud. She was covered. Not only had her bottom gotten the annital fall, but there was a blast radius that had covered her, making her look like some kind of pathetic monster. "Dear lord, did you just fall off of your horse?" siad Sir Harold hoping of from atop his mount and walking towards her. "No, I just thought I'd jump down hear real quick and play in the mud! Would you like to join me?" She was being completley sarcastic. Sir Harold, however, looked down at her like she had lost her mind, before deciding to pretend he hadn't noticed her randome burst of insanity. "Aren't you going to get up?" he questioned. The truth was that she had been trying to, but the mud had caused some kind of suction cup affect on her. "I can't, I'm stuck." she reached out her hand to him. He just stood there and starred at it a minuete not saying a word. "Well, are you going to help me up or not?!" she didn't meen to be rude, but this was rediculous! "Now there's no need to ruin a perfectley good pair of gloves by getting them all muddy. I'll go fetch a servant to assist you. You just stay hear, I'll be back in a jiff." he said, and started to trot his horse back down path. She couldn't believe her ears! Some gentleman he was, leaving a lady hear in the mud! She struggled to get out, put she wouldn't budge. She heard some one walking down the rode, and had expected to see Sir Harold with a servant, but instead she saw Derek.

All Penelope could think about was that now Derek was going to taunt her about being muddy, and you know what? she was right! "My, my, my, what has miss Penny gotten herself into now?" "Will you just shutup, and help me out over here?!" said Penelope, getting even more annoyed at his name for her. "You sure are bossy, for one whose waste deep in mud, you know that?" he said smiling. She gave up; she new there was only one way to win this silly game of his. "Please, Derek, will you help me get out of the mud?" she said, trying to be as sincere as possible. "Now was that so hard to say?" he said flashing another taunting smile. she hated it. He reached out his hand and she slopped her gross muddy one on it. His firm grip tugged at her arm strongly. The good news was that she was pulled free of the mud's grasp the bad thing was that she fell into Derek's. She pratically jumped back off of him. The worst part of it all was that she was blushing. Thank god she was covered in mud, or he would of probably laughed. After a few seconds Derek finally spoke. "Well?" "Well what?" she said back glad to be back to teasing each other. "Well are you going to say thankyou, or are you just gonna stand there looking like a fool?" she went right back to their old game of who can make the other one madder, quicker, and she liked it that way. "Your welcome, your highness!" she said taking a small bow. "That's grattitude for you! Well atleast I don't look like a mud monster like you." he said lauphing. She grabbed a huge hand full of mud and slammed it straight down on his head lauphing as hard as he had. "Now you do!" Next thing she new, they were waged in a head to head mud war, and she was winning!

Within five minuetes Derek was a covered in mud as she was! Unfortunatly Sir Harold was coming up the road at a steady pace, and she wasn't paying attention, and got a glob of mud trust right in her face. "What on earth happened to you?!" said Sir Harold. "We're having a mud fight." said Penelope, once agian not caring what he thought. "I would have thought you would be more responsible than that!" he siad looking at Derek. What did he think that Derek was responsible and she wasn't!?" "Sorry, sir, I'll just be going now." as he stalked away he turned back scowling at Penelope behind Sir Harold's back, and mouthed 'You started it!' She would of laughed if her fiance was standing right there looking at her as if they were going to get married with her all covered in mud. "Let's go. I'm already late for my meeting." she slid on her horse and the two of them, and the servant walked back towards the house without a word.

As she expected her mother was highly dissapionted in her. Apparently it was very scandalous to through mud at another man when you where to be wed soon, but she didn't see how. Pamala helped her wash the mud that was caked around her, and by mid-afternoon she was as good as new. She new her mother wouldn't like it, but she wanted to go clean off Buttercup. She didn't really care if she became dirty agian. Like she suspected her horse was a dirty as she was. "I hope your happy, Penny, now Sir Harold will think of me as a child like you." siad Derek coming up from behind her, cleaned off as well. "It's your own fault!" siad Penelope in her deffance. "If i'm not mistaken, your the one that made the first blow." "I couldn't help it. you provoked me. and besideds your only 4 years older than me. " ((i'm probably gonna make her 16, and him 20. i like it better that way.)) "Well it's different for me." She new he was right even though she hated to admit it. his parent's had died when he was only 10 and they had taken him into they're caring like many others. He had practically taught himself to raise the horses. "even so, you have no right to act like your my surpearer." "I'm not the one who sleeps in feilds and falls of my horse!" "Well even when i do fall of my horse i can whip your butt at a mud fight any day!" she siad beginning to smile. "You caught me at a bad time." he said smiling as well. "One day we'll have to have a re-match. "it's a deal." she said and she stuck out her hand. He grasped it for the second time this day, except for this time it was clean.
