Carei’s Past
Created by: Meghan Young
Ok. The setting is with the young and nieve new empress Careithia. When she was five, her parents died in a tragic fire in the old castle. Carei had made it out without even a scratch. A false king was placed on the throne until carei was old enough to claim it herself. She is now hapilly living on the throne of Underwood, at the young age of 16.
She is at her palace enjoying a fine meal waiting for her friend Vela to join her. Carei wore a long silky white dress, with a pink sash around her middle. She had beautiful bright blond hair that was tied in a ponytail in the back. She had a sweet and kind face that was beautiful with youth.
A young man suddenly walked through the halls, staring around and looking at his surroundings. This man had a calm air about him. His slited eyes were the color of ripe plums and his skin was a mahogany tan. He had short, straight, trendy hair that was coffee-colored, and slicked back. His clothes were casual and they made him look daring and handsome. His age was probably about 18 just by looking, and he was 18. He was about maybe 6'4" or 6'5" and had a strong lean build, with boyish features.
Carei heard someone moving about the halls outside. "Vela, is that you?"
The man stopped, then saw Carei. "No," he smiled, “But If I can stay with you, I'll be anyone you want," he laughed childishly. "My name is Ceteo," he replied.
For a second Carei was speechless. The man was incredibly handsome. "Uuuhhh...ok" she responded in a dreamy voice.
He laughed at her reaction, “I don't know your name, and what pleasure it is of meeting you," he smiled handsomely, kneeling before her and taking her hand, kissing her wrist like a true gentlemen.
"Sorry, I’m empress Careithia, but please call me Carei.”She replied while curtsying. "Would you like to join me for lunch Ceteo?"
"I'd be delighted to," he smiled, standing up and bowing to her. "The pleasure is all mine," he smiled, his eyes sparkling toward her eyes.
"You can sit here." said Carei pointing to a chair right beside her. She just couldn't stop looking at him. "Do you work here in the palace?"
"Yes...I just received a new job here. Before I was working for other people," he smiled kindly at her. He noticed the chair that he was going to be seated at, “Thank you," he looked at her pleasingly, his smile warm and gentle.
"That’s nice." said Carei dreamily. "I hope you like roast duck..." seconds later a huge duck came in carried by chefs and a little was placed on each plate.
He smiled,” I’m fine. I'm not hungry," he replied. "I'll stay...but you may eat," he replied, smiling. "I've tried duck before. Not one of my favorites," he laughed weakly, looking away from her to the wall.
“Sorry..." for some reason she felt bad for suggesting eating duck. ”You, can have anything you want out of our kitchens."
"No! I'm fine," he stuttered, smiling weakly still. He then laughed, “I’m fine," he replied, looking at her deeply, his eyes smiling at her. He then looked away, as if his nerves were going insane. He bit his lip, as if trying to think what to say next. He looked like a little kid, trying to tell his mother the truth about something, like he was hiding something, like he wanted to say something, but was worried about the reaction.
“So...are you new to Underwood. I’ve never seen you before?" asked Carei with a smile.
He was quiet a moment, then snapped back to the real world," Huh wha- Oh, yes. Yes I am," he answered in a rush, smiling back at her.
Suddenly Vela burst through green eyes sparkling and golden brown hair flying everywhere. "So..." Vela said smiling," did I miss dinner. It seems like forever since I’ve been here. Hey who are who?" Vela asked noticing the stranger.
Ceteo spun around, hearing the slamming of the door. "Oh?" he replied. "Are you a friend of Lady Carei?" he asked the intruder.
She was so distracted by her handsome new guest that Carei forgot all about Vela coming. "Ohh...hi Vela this is my friend Ceteo. We just met. Ceteo this is my best friend Vela."
Ceteo smiled, seeing that Vela was a friend and stood up. He walked toward Vela and took her hand, and kissed it gently. "Nice to meet you," he replied, smiling at her.
"Ummmm.....hi" Vela replied wary of the gentlemanly stranger, then turning to Carei. "Guess what, my uncle Tivo is going to teach me magic." She said excitedly forgetting all about the man.
"Could you excuse us real quick Ceteo, we need to go check on something in the kitchen." said Carei quickly, pulling her friend along with her.
Ceteo nodded, “No problem," he smiled.
Carei and Vela headed off to the kitchen. "Isn't he just dreamy!" exclaimed Carei to vela when they were out of hearing distance
He is ok," Vela replied watching the door something about him didn't feel right," He just seems too nice."
Ceteo stared around the room, waiting for them to finish. He noticed a beautiful necklace on the slab of the table. He stared at it, and then reached for it, as if trying to take it.
He’s just being a gentleman. Let’s go back I don’t want him to think were avoiding him." They walked back into the dinning room. "Sorry. Had to check up on the chefs" said Carei to Ceteo.
Ceteo didn't react fearfully, he just casually turned around and faced them, putting hands to his sides. "It's all right," he smiled.
Vela suddenly stood up and said, "I should probably go," nervously," I have lesson's with my uh... uncle. See yah later, Carei.”
Ceteo looked at Vela, “It was nice meeting you Vela," he replied, smiling at her.
"It was nice meeting you too." says Vela still nervous, and she hurries out of the room.
"Uhh bye, see you later. Hey do you want to go for a walk in the garden? It's such a beautiful day outside" asked Carei after Vela left.
"Sure," he smiled, walking toward her. He held his hand out to her, “Let us go to the beyond," he laughed childishly.
"Ok" said Carei dreamily taking his hand. They walked about the garden, silent, but not an uncomfortable silence, a friendly silence.
He walked, still holding her hand. He stared into the sky, his eyes sparkling, and seemed to reflect off the moonlit night sky. He then stopped, and turned to her, smiling at her. "You know something?" he replied with question in his voice. He then laughed, shaking his head at his remark. "You’re about the most remarkable woman I've met," he replied, nearing close to her lips, his warm breathe breathing onto her face.
“Uh huh" she said starring into his beautiful eyes. She was overtaken by the moment and leaned into the kiss. It was like magic. She had never been kissed before, but she couldn't image it going any better.
Their lips touched, and he moved his hands to the back of her neck, holding her head gently and pushing her closer to him slowly as they kissed.
They spent the rest of the night walking about the garden stopping every once and a while to kiss. Sadly the sun started to rise like it always does. "I wish this night could have lasted forever, but I have to go. Will I get to see you again soon?" asked Carei hopefully to her knew love interest.
He nodded, “Yes...we will see each other soon. I promise," he whispered into her ear with a charming voice. He kissed her lips and walked away steadily into the sunlight.
After Vela had left, she hurried back to the rooms she always stayed in while visiting Carei. She had a bad feeling about Ceteo, and hoped Carei wouldn't go to deep.
Ceteo continued to walk, and then glanced at his pocket, “My charms always seem to work," he chuckled darkly, pulling out a family heirloom of Carei's. It was a beautiful necklace with pearls and jades and any type of jewel you could think of, even ones that were so rare, only a few more pounds of the crystal existed. "Yes...this will do quite well," he laughed, slipping it back into his pocket.
"Vela, where are you!" cried Carei through the halls. "I need to talk to you!"
Vela woke from her troubled sleep when she heard Carei's calls. She pulled on her clothes and hurried out into to the hall to find her, “What is it Carei? Are you ok?"
"I've just had the most remarkable night of my life!" exclaimed Carei to her friend. "I think I'm in love!"
Whoa, wait a minute." Vela replied startled, all drowsiness gone," What did you just say?"
"You remember the guy that you met last night don’t you?" asked Carei.
"Yeah, you mean that guy that was way too nice to be real right." Vela asked worry growing with every passing second." Yeah, I remember him. I didn't like him very much."
"I don't know what you’re talking about! He's perfectly wonderful. I think I love him as a matter of fact" argued Carei.
"Well, I don't trust him and I think that you should just forget about him. He probably doesn't care one wit about you. All he wants is your wealth!" Vela stated, trying to get her friend to see reason." Besides you just met him last night. At least give it more time before you go all sappy on me."
"I can't believe this! I thought you would be happy for me!!! Well if you don't trust me enough to know my own emotions, I can't trust our friendship. Ceteo and me are in love! Who knows, we might even get married! Good-bye Vela." Carei said these last words with anger, but mostly hurt. She didn't understand why her friend was acting this way. She ran out of the room crying. There was only one person to talk to know and he would surly understand.
Vela stood dumbfounded, mouth open at the doorway. "Carei wait. Come back!." She shouted down the hall," Let's talk about it, I think you misunderstood." Her voice trailed off as she realized Carei was not going to listen to her. Now that Carei was gone, anger started to grow inside her. She was not going to apologize to Carei for sharing her opinion with her. If Carei didn't want to be her friend she wouldn't be. Carei would apologize before Vela ever did.
"Ceteo, where could you be! I am longing to speak to you" said Carei to more to herself, as she walked down the halls aimlessly. Her eyes were puffy from crying, but she was over it now. Vela would soon apologize for her stupid mistake.
Ceteo was by himself, inspecting the necklace as he looked at the diamonds, checking their rarity in his mind. He was a thief. He knew everything there was to know about jewels. He had seen every single jewel in the world, studied their rarity and anything else you could put into mind. He heard a faint call, but he paid no mind, looking at the diamonds again with a greedy like smile.
As Carei was looking for Ceteo, Vela grabbed a book and headed out for the stables, growing angrier at everybody, Carei and Ceteo in particular. "I can't believe she wouldn't listen to me," Vela said fuming to herself," And that player is probably no more than a common thief with a pretty face." By this point she had reached the stables, saddled Yfandes, her horse, and was already galloping out over the fields searching for a place to calm down and read. She would be able to think reasonably when she wasn't mad.
Carei's young mind grew restless. She wanted, needed, to speak with her love again. Eventually she grew weary, and was about to turn around when she heard someone laugh. It wasn't exactly a laugh, more of an expression of triumph, though she had never heard it before. It sounded evil almost. She began walking towards the door that the sound had sprung from.
Ceteo suddenly heard tapping sounds behind his door, like footsteps. He then gripped onto the necklace and slipped it into his drawer. He slammed it and stretched for a book, and luckily touched one and grabbed it. He opened it, but tumbled to the ground like a silly klutz. He hit the floor, sighing suddenly. "I hate it when this happens," he mumbled angrily.
Carei heard more noise within, but this time talking. "Ceteo, is that you?" asked Carei, a little bit frightened.
"Yu-Yes,' he mumbled, lifting his head off the floor and laughing at himself.
"I'm glad to see you again." said Carei entering the room. "I missed you" she said with a loving smile.
Vela stood in a clearing not far from the Palace venting her anger. By now she had scared her horse off, and was not looking forward to the walk back to the Palace. "How could she not listen to me? Have I ever lied to her, EVER!!!! NOOOOO!!!," Vela was shouting now and was pretty sure every one at the Palace could hear her," And Ceteo, he is..is.........he's just a stupid, no for good, idiot. I can't believe he is using her like that!!!! Well I hope Carei learns her lesson." She stopped shouting her voice now at a normal level. "Well I'll take care of this myself. If Carei won't save her self, I'll at least help her."
He laughed, lifting himself off the floor, "Yeah. Same here," he smiled, straightening his clothes and walking toward her. "I missed you a lot," he replied, a charming and seductive manly smile sparkled on his face.
She ran up and hugged him. "Vela doesn't understand our love. she doesn't understand us." bawled Carei on Ceteo's shoulder.
Ceteo eyes twitched, seeing that Vela may already know about him. Did she know that he was a thief? He then snapped back into the real world like a switch on a light and patted her head gently, brushing her hair between his long fingers. "Sshh." he whispered. "It’s all right,"
"She yelled at me! We’ve been friends all my life, and that's never happened before" said Carei confused.
"It’s all right," he whispered comfortingly again. "Don't worry. It will take time for her to get use to me, but it's all right. I guess she's just worried about you," he smiled, kissing her forehead lightly.
"Thanks." said Carei really meaning it. "I should probably go lie down. I feel kind of shaky." said Carei walking towards the door.
"Here. Let me walk you to your room," he replied kindly, grabbing her hand and leading her slowly to her room. "Which way is it? I don't really know the place, just lead the way," he paused and kissed her, “And I will follow," he chuckled boyishly.
"Ok" said Carei starting to feel better. "It's just a little way down this hall." Carei led the way graciously towards her room. "I'll see you later" said Carei after one last good-bye kiss. She shut the door behind her.
Vela had made it back to the Palace, now her cool and collected self. She walked up the stairs and into Ceteo's room flinging the door open. When she saw he wasn't there she waited silently for him to return, fury seething inside her.
Ceteo stared at her down a moment, then smiled, “Good night angel," he replied charmingly through the door, and walked off casually toward his room. He suddenly noticed that the door was open. "I'm sure I closed it before I left," he replied a loud to himself. He walked closer to the door. "Hello?" he replied, reaching for his back pocket for his dagger, fully on his top guard.
Vela heard Ceteo's call from the hallway as she spun around to face the door, eyes narrowing. She was determined to give Ceteo what was coming for him.
Ceteo entered his room, and then paused, seeing Vela. "Uh...Oh...hello." he replied with a smile, quickly putting his dagger back into its holster. He then looked kindly at Vela, “What brings you here?" he asked.
"You," Vela said her eyes filling with hate, “are a piece of shit!" Even though Carei and she weren't on the best of terms, she didn't want to see her get hurt. "Why don't you just leave with whatever you've already taken, thief, and leave Carei alone? You might fool her but you don't fool me!"
He stared at her, "Wha-What are you talking about?" he asked. "I LOVE HER!" he shouted angrily, his eyes thinning to a glare.
"Sure you love her." Vela said bitter sarcasm in her voice," You love her about as much as I love you. You don't care one wit for her! All you care about is yourself, and her wealth!"
He stared at her in anger, “How dare you say that to me wench!" he yelled angrily, pulling out the dagger in pure rage and slicing it toward her.
Vela jumped out of reach of the dagger, and pulled her own out. She had expected this. "What? Did you think I was as stupid as all your other victims?" Vela said, taunting him on. Vela knew she was no match for him, but she was pretty good and willing to do anything to save her friend.
He stopped. He dropped his arm and put back his dagger, ‘I have no time to fight you. But you're a liar," he glared at her deeply again. "I love her," he hissed and walked past her, bumping into her purposely. "Now get away and out of my room," he growled.
Vela glared at him as she backed out of the room, eyes never leaving him and her dagger never leaving her hand. "Fine, but this is far from over." She snarled back, as she left the room and pulled the closed the door behind her.
Carei stood for a few moments behind the door after she had closed it. Her mind was in a rush. What with falling in love and fighting with her best friend, Carei was worn out. She plunged on to her silken sheets without even taking the time to change. That night she had a dream, but it was so real for a little while she thought it had really happened. She saw a woman in a red leather dress, but she could not see her face. It was too dark. She looked very dangerous and mad. In her hand was a long metal dagger. She followed the lady down a long narrow alley way, and finally ended with a door. She barged into the room with no warning, and slashed through a man and women’s throat before they new what hit them. They had been asleep on the bed together. She didn't know how she new, but she felt like that woman was not that man's wife, thought he wore a wedding ring. The murder suddenly turned around, and the light revealed her face. It was her! Carei woke up screaming.
