"Thanks," Ata said with a smile. "I might see you at your audition. I promise I will try to make it, unless by some act of god I end up having a break through with my project. Which doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. Anyways, have fun." She got out of the car and grapped her bag. "Bye Lana." She said and then closed the door and walked up to her garage. She wasn't even going to walk into the house today, she was going to get right to work. She opened the garage door reveal the very organized inside that any engineer would love to have.

Backing out of the driveway, Lana sped off toward her own house two blocks over. She didn't really want to go home, but knew she had to since she had the most responsibility in the house. She was the oldest daughter in the house which meant she had to do the most. It didn't matter that she had an older brother who could help, she was the girl so she had to do the chores.
Arriving at her house she shut off her Jeep and climbed out, faintly she could her yelling coming from inside. Sighing to herself she unwillingly went into the house. The moment she took one step inside the house, she saw complete chaos all around her. She walked further into her house to see her four other siblings doing something no one should ever try out.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!" Lana screeched, her four siblings froze and looked over at their sister. Her older brother, Anthony(18), was standing behind the railing of the loft but oh no, he wasn't standing there. No, he was dangling their youngest brother, Alex(14), over railing. Below them watching, with mirth in their eyes, stood their two littlest sisters Amber(10) and Ashley(12).

Ata got to work immediately and to her surprise seemed to be getting somewhere with it. She had created so many things in her life but none of them have been as small or as hard to create as this one. Before now she was going any where and now she was making some real progress. Taking a moment to breath she leaned back in her chair. "I could probably even finish this tonight." She said excitedly, forgetting all about Lana's audition. She quickly got back to work.

"Pull Alex back over right now!" Lana yelled at them, then turned to the giggling girls in front of her, "Now I know you two haven't even begun your homework. Go to the kitchen table and get started." Walking into the kitchen with her sisters, she couldn't help the heavy sigh at how she had to be the parent for her siblings.
Looking up as she walked in she saaw her mom talking on the wall phone, her voice made it known that it was a serious conversation and to keep quiet. Lana glanced around the kitchen once and immediately knew what was for dinner tonight. Grabbing a box of Hamburger Helper, she began to cook for her family. "Lana," Ashley called out to her," Come help me, I don't understand this problem." "Hold on a sec," Lana told her as she fried up the meat and added the ingredients. Hearing the phone click on the wall, she looked at her mom in wonder, "Who was that Mom?" Her mother sighed heavily, it was tough having to be a single parent to five kids, "Just bill collectors, Hon. I'm gonna need to do an extra shift tonight, so I need you to watch your siblings." "Mom, I can't I have to go to an audition tonight!" "Well just take them with you," Lana gave her a look of disbelief. Take her four crazy as heck siblings to her audition! Over her dead body!

Ata continued to work, minutes passing by like seconds. Every thing was starting to fall into place like it was simple all along and she just couldn't see it. She was so engrossed in her work that her parents had to yell through the door to finally get her attention. She sighed but kept working. "What do you want?" She growled.
"You have been in there for two hours Atalyss," Her mother called. "It's time for dinner."
"I'm not hungry..." She called not stopping her work for even a moment.
"Get out of that garage right this minute and come to dinner," She snapped.
"I'm busy," Ata said try to keep her focus. She was afriad she would lose this whole strick if she stopped.
"Don't make me call them Atalyss, I will," Her mother threatened.
Ata immediatly stopped and glared at the door. 'They' were the only thing they had against her and her mother and father used it often to get her to do what they wanted. She cursed silently under her breath and set the device on the table. She stood and walked for the door, unlocked it, and went to dinner.

"You all had better be quiet while I'm auditioning or I swear I will be so angry with you you won't know what hit you, "Lana whispered furiously to her siblings who were sitting in the back row of the PAC building. The choir director had decided to use the building for the audition to make it feel a bit more professional.
"Yea, Yea. We'll behave, " Anthony told her with an air of boredom in his voice.
"Anthony, I'm begging you! Please, just this once really look after them. I really want this part, I want this so much," Lana said to him desperately. She never asked her older brother anything, always taking care of everything for her siblings. To others it seemed like she was the older one, not her brother.
Anthony looked up at Lana from his seat, "Ok, Lana. I promise we'll behave, you just go and sing that heart of yours out." It was times like these, when he would look at her like a big brother should, that made her remember how much she loved her siblings.
Smiling at her older brother she grabbed her audition piece and headed off to the stage where the other students trying out were standing.

After another ackwardly quiet dinner with her parents, Ata stood and headed for the garage once again. She was determined to remember everything that had been in her head moments before she had been rudely interupted and she was determined to finish her project tonight, because she knew... knew deep down that she could get it done tonight.
"Ata where do you think you are going?" Her mother asked just as she grabbed the door knob. Ata let out a heavy sigh.
"I am going to get back to work." She said keeping her back turned to them.
"Oh, no your not. We need to talk." Her mother said. "I got a letter from the school today showing that your grades have dropped."
Ata's hand tightened against the door knob so hard that her knuckles turned white. What her parents were talking about was completely rediculous and she knew that damn well. If anything her grades were perfect... and yes maybe since she got the idea for this project she had worked on it so much that she was barely getting any sleep. But THIS was outragous. She had seen her grades, they weren't her normal 95 or above but they were all still A's.

Greeting fellow choir members, Lana made her way up to the very front to get a good seat. Sitting down with a plop she glanced over to her right and immediately had to suppress a groan, sitting right beside her was the one and only Courtney.
"Lana," Courtney greeted in a snobbish voice.
"Courtney," Lana replied coolly.
"I see you changed your shirt...you really didn't need to, we all know your an embarrassment either way," Courtney said with a smirk.
Lana took in a deep breath, Courtney always got on her nerves but Lana was pretty level-headed so she usually didn't say anything back. However every once in a while she did let loose.
Turning her head to face Courtney, Lana gave her a curious look, "Hey Court, you have something on your face," She leaned closer and gave a look of disgust," Oh my gosh! Is that the biggest Zit I've ever seen?" Courtney gasped and immediately grabbed her purse in a frantic search for her mirror. 'Victory is mine today,' Lana thought to herself.

Lana glanced up and watched as Mr. Carlton made his way to centerstage. he cleared his throat and gained Lana's undivided attention, "Thank to all of you choir members for coming to try out for the solo slots of the show. I will call up your name and you will sing to all of us your one piece. Remember I am only taking on 5 choir students, so try your hardest and let's begin."
Mr. Carlton began to call up people one at the time. Apparently it wasn't going fast enough because sure enough her siblings began to talk and laugh louder and louder. Lana slowly began to inch her way down her seat in embarrassment as students began to look back at the commotion. Finally when she felt she couldn't handle it anymore Mr. Carlton called out her name, and with a sigh of relief she stood up and made her way for centerstage.
Lana took a deep breath and faced her audience, "Today, I will be singing Dark Waltz by Hayley Westenra" She stopped and tokk another deep breath,'Come on Lana you can do this.'
Nodding to the guy backstage to start the music, the song began. The accompaniment beginning softly, and she sang.
'We are the lucky ones We shine like a thousand suns When all of the colour runs together
I'll keep you company In one glorious harmony Waltzing with destiny forever
Dance me into the night Underneath the full moon shining so bright Turning me into the light'
Lana smiled softly, she felt so confident and full of life right at this moment. Pouring her entire soul into the song, she felt nothing could go wrong.
'Time dancers whirling past I gaze through the looking glass And feel just beyond my grasp is heaven
Sacred geometry Where movement is poetry Visions of you and me forever
'Dance me into the night'
Lana began to hear chuckles in the distance, and then she heard Courtney's voice. "I bet you anything she's going to choke." Laughter began to ring throughout the auditorium, even her siblings could be heard laughing at Lana. Lana's face turned a pinkish color, her own family didn't even support her.
'Underneath the full moon shining so bright Turning me into the light'
Lana's breath began to sound more gaspy as she struggled to not cry right there in front of the goddess and all her minions.
Dance me into the night U-underneath the full moon shining so bright Let... the dark waltz begin-n Oh let me wheel - let me spin
Tears began streaming down her face quietly as she tried to continue the song.
'Let it take me...'
Laughter rang out, and that was the final straw for Lana. Looking out at the audience she couldn't help the struggled breath's coming out of her. Turning to stage left, she ran off in a hurry, trying to escape the humiliation.
She got out into the hallway of the auditorium and collapsed onto the ground, crying her heart out. Her family had betrayed her tonight, and she most likely didn't make the cut. Slowly she stood up and made her way to the parking lot. Reaching her Jeep she saw tha her siblings were there waiting for her. Immediately apologies began, but she didn't want to hear it. Raising her hand to still the mumbled "sorries". She opened the door and got in, her brother's and sister's following in afterwards. Her pointless apologies coming out of there mouth's was worthless, considering all she did for them, she just no longer wanted to even try anymore. Starting her engine, she pulled out of the lo and drove her family home; hoping and praying that maybe tomorrow would be better, and maybe being able to seek some sort of comfort in Ata.

After an endless night of working Ata was finally finished with her invention. She still didn't know what it did, but that didn't matter, it was finished. With a sigh of exhaustion she stroked the tiny box one last time and stood up to go to her room. She could at least get a few hours of sleep before school. She didn't even make it to the door before she collapsed on the ground, sound asleep.

((*shakes head at pathetic post*))
With the alarm clock screaming in her ear, Lana slowly opened her eyes to see a cloudy sky outside her window. Rolling over onto her back she couldn't figure out why she felt so miserable, but slowly the memories came back and she realized just why she was feeling that way. Sighing she rolled off her bed and onto the floor with a soft thud, and laid there not eveing moving.
"LANA! Time to get up!" Her mom called from downstairs. Rolling her eyes she began to get ready for the day ahead.
Opening her closet, she couldn't help but choose Baggy black pants, along with a black Evanescence hoodie and her converse. She figured she'd just dress her mood for the day. Entering the kitchen, she was ecstatic that none of her siblings were there, meaning they had all found rides of their own. Grabbing her jeep keys, she decided against eating breakfast and just leaving, so kissing her mom on the cheek she left for her high school.

Ata's eyes flickered open and she groaned. It didn't feel like she had gotten any sleep at all. She lifted her head to look at the clock and immediatly jumped to her feet. "I slept in..." She said run out the garage door and up the stairs to her room. "Lana is going to be here any minute." She quickly threw on some clothes, grabbed her bag, and skipped breakfast as usual. With a sigh she plopped down on the front porch steps to wait for Lana.

Hands gripping the wheel Lana drove off towards Ata's house. It was 8:00, it usually took about 15-20 minutes to get to school if she picked up Ata. However she never really complained much about it, it was always some what of a comfort to have a companion in the car. It was like even if something bad happened you always had there back, but of course having a friend you can talk to after a long day is also a plus. Lana pulled up to Ata's driveway and was happy to see her sitting on the front porch today.

Ata saw Lana's car pull up to the front of the house and stood up as she threw her bag over her shoulder and went to her car. "Morning," She said tiredly as she sat down in the passenger seat. "I stayed up all night finishing my project and fell asleep in the garage. I'll probably end up sleeping in my classes today." She sighed and sunk into the seat as well as putting a foot on the dash as she usually did.

Lana glared subtly at the foot before pulling out of the driveway and onto the main road. "You should've gotten more sleep," She mumbled. Her eyes stayed trained on the road, she couldn't help the mothering tone in her voice. It was what happened after having to care for her siblings all these years. Her siblings. Her nose twitched a bit in anger, she couldn't even think about them without getting furiously mad at them. Mentally she groaned, this was what usually happened when she went to bed angry, all her thoughts would still be frusturated in the morning and she'd be in a lousy mood.
